From cultural institutions to outdoor activities to special public events, the quality and range of possibilities across Southwest Indiana is outstanding and impressive.

In any part of the region, at any time of the year, Southwest Indiana provides a full and varied schedule of events. Its excellent location, high levels of community involvement, and strong local support give residents a wide selection of recreational activities and contribute to the area's outstanding quality of life.

Nearly every community in Southwest Indiana hosts its own special festival or attraction during the year. Several of these events draw national and even international attention, including:

• Thunder on the Ohio (hydroplane races)
• Spirit of Vincennes Rendezvous (historical period festival and reenactment)
• Numerous annual summer and fall festivals.

Spencer County is home to the nation's first theme park, Holiday World, located in Santa Claus, Indiana. Holiday World recently received the honor of being named the best run, most family friendly and cleanest theme park in the world - beating out world class resorts including Disney World! Holiday World also offers 2 of the world's top roller coasters and attracts aficionados from around the globe.

The visual and performing arts are well-represented by venues including

With its moderate climate, Southwest Indiana offers a full range of sports and spectator activities. The University of Evansville basketball team (building on its five Division II national titles) brings NCAA Division I competition to the area. The University of Southern Indiana schedules a strong basketball season and boasts outstanding soccer and baseball teams.

Parks, public and private golf courses, swimming pools, and boating facilities abound in every county; while water and snow skiing, ice skating, and organized races, runs, and rides are presented during the respective seasons. Nearby thoroughbred horse racing tracks and a riverboat casino also provide entertainment and wagering.
