Council approves ATTC abatement
By KEVIN KOELLING, Managing Editor, Perry County News, 8/05/05
TELL CITY - Perry County Council members approved at their regular meeting Monday a 10-year tax abatement to aid an expansion announced by ATTC Manufacturing.
"This is our third expansion," said Jeff Jones, the company's accounting manager. "We started with 90,000 square feet, and we'll be 290,000 square feet with this expansion."
The Japanese-owned automotive-parts manufacturer announced in October 2000 it intended to move into the former Perfect Fit Industries facility in the Perry County Industrial Park South off of Indiana 37. Company officials said at the time they intended to invest up to $65 million within the following decade.
They announced plans for a $3 million, 66,000-square-foot expansion in March 2002. Further growth announced in December was projected at an additional $11 million and would take the size to 215,000 square feet. The company announced its latest expansion last month, saying it would bring a $35 million addition of nearly 75,000 square feet.
Original predictions to employ 81 people within 10 years have been dwarfed. The 75 jobs expected with the latest increase is expected to bring the facility's working population to 322 people.
The abatement request was approved unanimously by the council, whose attorney will draft a resolution for their adoption at a future meeting.
